External Description: ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for leading engineering efficiencies for all types of castings
  • Works in conjunction with Program leaders, Engineering, Quality and Purchasing within Polaris to ensure we design and purchase world class castings
  • Work primarily on non-ferrous high pressure die castings but also be able to work on ferrous and non-ferrous sand, investment and permanent mold castings
  • Perform a pre-RFQ analysis on castings including;
    • Cast part design for manufacturability review
    • Print evaluation
    • Assist in best material and process selection
    • Specifying and defining potential tool configuration to meet the overall needs of the project in terms of cost, quality, and schedule
    • Identifying and assess potential cast suppliers based on technical capability
    • Calculate should-costs based on preliminary designs
    • Conceptualize preliminary cast and machining tools
  • Utilize the Polaris product development process
    • Drive tool development from part conception through start of production
    • Participates in design reviews with suppliers and ensure adequate input and involvement from all engineering and functional groups
    • Help address any technical issues when needed during the build
    • Attend tool samples as needed
  • Lead casting related continuous improvement activities
    • Document and share knowledge and best practices across platforms and product groups
    • Develop casting related specifications
    • Analyzes field problems and recommends and present possible solutions
    • Visit suppliers when needed to resolve issues
    • Identify potential new materials and technologies
  • Other duties as assigned


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years in the tooling and manufacturing of cast parts
  • High pressure die casting experience a bonus
  • Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures to solve technical problems
  • Able to project manage

  • ProE or similar CAD experience
  • Competent using Microsoft office applications such as Excel and PowerPoint
