As the Autonomy System Lead Engineer, you will lead the identification and definition of the autonomous system architecture, applicable standards, development requirements, validation requirements, system and vehicle integration requirements, future trend analysis and autonomous system technical roadmap. You will collaborate extensively with a number of teams including:
- CGD business team to conduct value chain analysis and ensure the entire user experience throughout the product life-cycle is captured
- Central Electrical Engineering team, cyber security team and functional safety team to ensure appropriate alignment with tools, methods and processes.
- The advanced development team to collaborate on hardware and software architectures associated with advanced driver's aids and synergies with full autonomous systems.
- External partners and suppliers to facilitate component and system development and integration.
Develop Polaris autonomous system technical and partner roadmap.
Gather, define, and document autonomy system development, validation and integration requirements (including sensing, computing, perception, communication, data storage, vehicle controls, use case definition and safety systems)
Work cross-functionally and cross-product to assess application opportunities and develop a reusable building-block approach to hardware and software architecture design where possible
Work closely with vehicle development team, controller leads, and external partners/suppliers to decompose requirements and plan component development & validation to meet system implementation performance, schedule, and cost requirements;
Lead system integration validation & problem solving
Lead system level Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Hazard Analysis & Risk Assessment (HARA), etc. to evaluate & address system functionality in all appropriate conditions
Work with cross-functional experts to ensure communication network/protocol, cybersecurity, power distribution, circuit protection, etc. are considered, leveraged, and/or optimized for the system as needed
Plan, propose, and/or recommend system and component level evolutions in maturity and capability that aligns with the long-range strategy of the team and the product roadmap
Evaluate and collaborate as required with autonomous system suppliers and partners
Research, review and communicate future trends, technologies, competitor positioning, policies and regulations associated with autonomous systems.
Identify opportunities to influence policies and regulations if applicable (ex. By sitting on standards committees).
Evaluate new technology integration opportunities.
Support CGD business team in the evaluation of :
- Market opportunities
- Partner / acquisition agreements
- Co-funding opportunities
- Value chain analysis
Other duties as required
Education, Skills and Knowledge:
B.S. in Engineering required, Electrical, Electro-Mechanical, Computer, Automotive, Agricultural Engineering preferred
Experience in mobility autonomous system design and development
Experience in system design, integration, & validation required
Demonstrated experience in effective problem solving, troubleshooting, and system level tradeoff evaluation required
Experience with communication networks required, CAN and J1939 preferred
Experience with design and/or implementation of controls, especially related to vehicle controls/diagnostics/communication strongly preferred
Familiarity with requirement and test case management in any requirement/software development database application as well as configuration management strongly preferred
Experience in calculating sensor/controller and/or actuator/controller integration circuit values for functionality and diagnostics, as well as calculating mechanical tolerances and how they affect control algorithms strongly preferred
Experience with component level software/hardware verification preferred
Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced development environment preferred
