Position Description: Be responsible for the development of vehicle architectures and structures with structural analysis using commercial FEA software packages. Utilize structural analysis to support structural design, support using commercial FEA and durability software codes, including loads generation and dynamic response prediction. Utilize understanding of the frequency domain to predict structural performance with frequency domain fatigue analysis. Perform stress-life and strain-life fatigue predictions, focused on Strain-Life fatigue predictions with non-linear dynamic and fully transient analysis tools (ABAQUS, NASTRAN, HYPERWORKS, ANSYS, ANSYS Workbench). Perform CAE Data Interpretation through reporting and documentation including interpretation to peers and leadership. Ensure Test Data Analysis by understanding chassis design performance. Develop and interrogate Power Spectral Density (PSD) profiles for correct utilization in durability predictions. Perform Model Correlation through examination of test data to drive correlation and CAE model development. Ensure Technical Leadership and Mentoring by leading other team members in the areas of structures, vibration, dynamics and durability. Generate technical and design solutions based on modal alignment, frequency force response, low and high frequency of the excitation loads, damage accumulation in frequency domain, general and sinusoidal input excitations, failure modes, durability of welds. Engage in Methods Development through implementation of customer focused Polaris specific CAE tools and best practices. Perform automation and continuous improvement as well as lead teams to solve ill-defined problem sets. Ensure Early Integration by applying knowledge and tools to the architecture selection as well as target setting early in design. Engage in Planning CAE activities for vehicle programs. Perform Stretch Assignments which involve exposure to many vehicles and types of problems, including stretch opportunities outside of core responsibilities. Be responsible for strategy by keeping abreast of new engineering developments affecting the organization and participating in peer group teams. Ensure knowledge base creation, including the development of durability procedures, methods, and metrics. Leverage a working knowledge of other attributes including performance, safety, and NVH. Up to 10% international and domestic travels required.
Position Qualifications: Applicant must possess a Bachelor's degree, or its foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering field, and 8 years of experience in structural analysis in relations to product development and evaluation of test data. Additionally, the applicant must have professional experience in the following: (1) 8 years of experience in the design of chassis, exhaust systems and other structural components, engines, test validation of components, and durability processes; (2) 8 years of experience with CAE tools (ANSYS, ANSYS Workbench, HyperMesh, OptiStruct, ANSA, ABAQUS Implicit & Explicit, NASTRAN), fatigue tools (nCode Glyphworks, DesignLife), and data post-processing tools (Hyperview, Glyphworks); (3) 8 years of experience with durability and advance fatigue theory, including experience with frequency domain problem sets; (4) 8 years of experience with advanced numerical problems, including structures, mechanical systems dynamics, explicit stress solutions, dynamics, optimization, DOE, contact, nonlinear, modal, systems approaches, durability, NVH, and non-linear; (5) 8 years of experience evaluating and predicting durability life of welded components for both stain life and stress life fatigue; and (6) 5 years of experienced developing CAE tools: automation of FEA modeling for contact problems and welded joints.
