JOB SUMMARY

This Powertrain Design Manager position entails the following:

  • Managing the activities of the Powertrain Continuous Improvement (CI) Team
  • Leading the Powertrain Design Staff supporting CI Activities
  • Leading an additional group of 5-7 Powertrain Design Staff as they support various Powertrain projects and processes

The Design Staff will include Layout Designers, Engineers and Project Assistants

The Continuous Improvement Team is the first point of contact for design related improvements related to engine components and systems currently in production. Production lines supported include those in Osceola WI and Monterrey Mexico.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Identify and manage design related opportunities to improve product and process quality
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis using techniques such as 8D, 5 Why, and A3 in support of CI Tasks
  • Identify early potential failure modes for design solutions by using DRBFM or DFMEA tools to:
    • Assess the risk associated with those failure modes
    • Rank the issues in terms of importance
    • Identify and carry out corrective actions addressing the most serious concerns
  • Identify and communicate Lessons Learned and corrective actions to the rest of Powertrain
  • Lead Design Staff career development by completing assessment reviews and annual performance reviews
  • Hold staff meetings with direct reports to provide Polaris business and general Powertrain updates
  • Attend CAPA Governance meetings with the Osceola Manufacturing Team as well as the Powertrain Team
  • Be an active participant on the Polaris Document Governance Team
  • Provide mentorship for at least one Powertrain Peer Team
  • Perform engineering calculations for basic stress and strength calculations, tolerance stack-up Analysis and GD&T
  • When required, create 3D-CAD Design of engine parts, assemblies and subassemblies including detailed drafting, dimensioning and tolerancing in support of problem resolution

SKILLS& KNOWLEDGE
  • 10+ years with BS in Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in engine design
  • Quality and customer focused
  • Design and development experience required
  • Experience leading multi-person Design Teams
  • Experience with GD&T, FMEA, DRBFM, DFM, DFA, and dimensional tolerance stack-ups
  • Creative, innovative, decisive and prone to action
  • Possess and apply a broad knowledge of principals, practices and procedures to the completion of difficult technical problems and projects
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
  • High level of people skills, able to lead a diverse team
  • Ability to motivate people
  • Ability to work with cross functional partners
  • Familiarity with CREO 3D CAD modeling software
  • Domestic and International travel is approximately 10%
